Diabetes complications can be a major factor in keeping your life healthy. There are many areas that can and will be affected if you don't take responsibility for controlling your disease.

I know, I know, I sound like your mother. But I can say with some clarity, because I thought I was invincible when I was younger and did not take my disease seriously, I did encounter, although mildly, some of the complications listed below.

1. Kidney disease or Diabetic Nephropathy : Controlling your blood sugars is essential in helping your kidneys filter your blood of impurities. Your Kidneys will have to work extra hard to filter your blood if blood sugars are not controlled.

2. Diabetic shock is typically called low blood sugar or hypoglycemia.

3. Diabetic Retinopathy or Diabetic eye problems is the most common eye disease for Diabetics.

4. Another overlooked complication issue facing us is Diabetes and depression

5. Delayed gastric emptying (Having to do with the stomach) is called Diabetic Gastroparesis

6. Severe high blood glucose can lead to Diabetic Ketoacidosis or Ketones in the blood.

7. Microalbuminuria is where the kidneys leak small quantities of protein called albumin into the urine.

8. Something that only happens to men with Diabetes is Diabetic Impotence , or failure to get and or keep an erection.

9. Last, but certainly not least is Diabetes and Hypertension .
